Optoelectronics (also referred to as photonics) are various forms of optical transceivers / receiver modules, copper-to-fiber media converters, “active” optical connectors and cables and other devices used to convert digital electrical signals in electronic equipment into optical signals for high-bandwidth, long-distance transmission. In free-space, aerospace and other demanding environments, optoelectronics are ruggedized for resistance to radiation, temperature extremes, vibration and shock.
Rugged Fiber Optic Transceiver Modules for High Data-Rate Aerospace Applications
Glenair PCB-mount transceivers are harsh-environment equivalents to SFP, SFP+, QSFP+, and QSFP28 transceivers, but with mechanical design suited to the harsh-temperature and vibration environments found in free-space optical data links, onboard satellite data links, RF, and other military and aerospace applications. Selected components have survived high levels of gamma, proton, and heavy ion radiation testing and are suitable for use in space applications, such as communications satellites.
